“Be careful when buying” – Viral Video Shows Rat Nibbling on Raw Chicken at a M’sian Supermarket

A video has recently gone viral on TikTok, depicting something that many of us feared when purchasing fresh ingredients and poultry at our local supermarket.

The 54-second video, which has gotten over 126,000 views and more than 2600 likes in just one day, shows a rat nibbling on a raw chicken being sold at an unnamed supermarket in our country.

Uploaded by TikTok user @fadhilahmad3031 who also recorded the incident, the raw chicken being sold at the supermarket was not only being nibbled by the rodent but it was also surrounded by flies.

The rodent can be seen nibbling on the head and neck of the raw chicken for a good 50 seconds or so before going away.

In her caption, @fadhilahmad3031 asserted that the video was recorded by her some two weeks ago but was only recently shared.

She further advised the public to be careful when purchasing goods at a supermarket, especially in relation to hygiene. She added that another patron has already reported the incident to the supermarket.

In the video’s comments section, many Malaysians expressed their disgust at the incident and also worried about the health-related issues that may occur from the rodent.

Several commenters expressed that the rodent may carry with it dangerous diseases that would inadvertently affect those who consumed the chicken.

Meanwhile, another commenter said that rats are nocturnal and the fact that the rodent had to go out during the day to find food means that there’s a sizeable rat population in the area.
