A resident in Besut, Terengganu, found an abandoned baby behind a house — a discovery that led to something more sinister.
The baby was the result of a forbidden relationship between a 16-year-old sister and her 14-year-old brother.

The discovery of an abandoned baby unearthed an incestuous relationship between a 14-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister
Acting Besut District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Md Sani Md Saleh, said that after the underage girl gave birth, she discarded the baby behind a house in the area, before it was discovered by one of the residents.
The discovery went viral on social media, and the infant was reportedly rushed to Besut Hospital for treatment.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Terengganu arrested the 14-year-old boy, who will be remanded for a week starting today (15 December) to assist with the investigation following the court’s approval.
“This case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code relating to the offence of abandonment of a child, which can carry a prison sentence of up to 7 years.”
“An investigation is also being conducted under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest, which is sexual intercourse by individuals who are not permitted to marry by religious law,” Md Sani said in a statement, as quoted by Sinar Harian.

Md Sani also said that the section carries a heavy sentence, with a prison term of not less than 6 years and not more than 20 years, as well as whipping.
“The act of throwing away a baby is an inhumane act that contradicts religious law and clearly denies a baby’s right to life.”
In the meantime, PDRM also urged the public not to spread false information about the matter, which may interfere with the ongoing investigation.
