Asian Games Crowd Goes Wild After Seeing Lee Chong Wei in Attendance on The Big Screen

The 2022 Asian Games is going on in Hangzhou, China, after being delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the most highly anticipated sports in the competition has got to be badminton, a favourite sport among Malaysians and the host country, both of which have an illustrious history not only in the Asian Games but also in international competitions in general.

Of course, when discussing badminton and Malaysia, one name will always come out above all the rest: Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei.

A badminton legend in Malaysia and worldwide, the retired former number one is a legend of the game and is more than not recognised wherever he goes in the world where badminton is popular.

The 2022 Asian Games is no exception, as a recent video posted on social media shows how popular Lee Chong Wei is among sports fans in China.

In the short 10-second clip, the cameras at a 2022 Asian Games badminton match can be seen focusing on the badminton hall of famer, showing him on the big screen of the auditorium.

The crowd then went wild seeing Lee Chong Wei and cheered for his presence at the badminton match.

In the X post’s replies, many iterated how much of a legend Lee Chong Wei is in the sport, saying they’re proud to have such an influential Malaysian.

One netizen said that the video explains why he heard chants of Lee Chong Wei during the 2022 Asian Games televised badminton match just now. Meanwhile, another netizen commented that Lee Chong Wei’s rather embarrassed demeanour when appearing on the big screen shows how humble he is, despite all his accomplishments.
