China recently celebrated its Tourism Day on 19 May 2021 and it was held in the most unlikeliest of venues: Wuhan! Yes, China actually made the city of Wuhan – the ground zero of the Covid-19 pandemic in December 2019 – as the main venue of the celebration for China Tourism Day.
A celebration of the tourism and hospitality business in China, China Tourism Day is a day for Chinese citizens to go out and attend a host of activities in tourist attractions throughout the country. In fact, on the day of the celebration, almost all tourism and hospitality businesses around China will exempt their tickets and provide sale price benefits to visitors.
As shared by China National Tourist Office in a press release, the country boldly picked the now infamous city of Wuhan as the main venue of the China Tourism Day 2021. Located in Hubei province, the city is a far cry from the ‘ghost town’ that it was during the first ever reported outbreak of Covid-19 back in late 2019.
The epicentre of the Covid-19 pandemic now has bounced back to life to become a city full of vigour and vitality. Furthermore, May is also among the best months of the year to visit Wuhan and the Hubei Province.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the theme for the celebration this year focuses on improving public awareness in safe and responsible travel. Specifically, the theme is ‘Green Development for Quality Life Shared by All’.
With the ravaging pandemic as an example, the theme is hoped to promote its citizens to be more eco-friendly and to have a harmonious development of mankind and earth.
It’s quite astonishing to see how things have changed in Wuhan and how the city have successfully controlled the virus outbreak. With Covid-19 vaccines being administered throughout the globe, let’s hope that the rest of the world will follow suit in curbing the virus.
