Following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman, a floodgate has seemingly opened as more of the coalition’s leaders have followed suit.
After the former Prime Minister’s exit, PN Secretary-General Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali has announced his resignation, effective 1 January 2026. In his social media post, Azmin stated that he will also resign as Selangor’s Perikatan liaison committee chairman effective on the same date.

More PN leaders announced their resignations
Not long after, Johor PN Chairman, Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal, announced he is stepping down, too. In his Facebook post, Sahruddin stated that he had also previously lost the Menteri Besar position.
According to a report by Sinar Harian, Dr Sahruddin denied that there was a crisis in the Johor PN that caused him to resign, saying that it’s “doing okay.”
In the latest updates, Negeri Sembilan PN chairman, Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker, and Perak PN chairman, Dato’ Seri Faizal Azumu, also took to their social media to announce their resignations from their respective posts.
In his Facebook post, Hanifah said the decision to resign was made with a full sense of responsibility and in line with the principle of respecting the structure, hierarchy, and governance of the Perikatan Nasional organisation.

Faizal, who is also the former Minister of Youth and Sports, said he is stepping down in view of Muhyiddin’s resignation as PN Chairman. He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the leadership and members of Perak PN’s component parties.
