Take note motorists and beware! We all know that using our mobile phones while driving is illegal, yet, we still find many people who continue doing so even when they know it isn’t safe.
Due to this issue, the Transport Ministry is currently planning to upgrade the Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras to be able to detect and capture when drivers are using mobile phones while driving, according to MMO. This plan is still under study as they need to address the feasibility of adding a new device in the AES cameras.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said that they will be working together with the Road and Transport Department to determine whether the technology is applicable as they want to reduce the number of road traffic accidents and deaths.
He said, “The ministry will look into improving the AES cameras to track drivers using handphones while driving.” He added that many road users were daring enough to use their mobile phones as it isn’t possible to detect this action under certain circumstances even though they know they are not supposed to do so. You shouldn’t do that!
Abdul Aziz added, “This is why we need to improve and modernise available enforcement methods, including the AES cameras to track wrongdoers,” and advised motorists to be considerate and to abide the law while driving in an effort to reduce the number of tragic accidents.
Regardless of whether this system will be implemented or not, using mobile phones while driving is dangerous so avoid doing so at all costs!
