Whether we like it or not, getting married these days can be very expensive. From the decor to the food, you might have to fork out all of your life’s savings to ensure the ceremony goes smoothly. But it does not stop there.

Enter parenthood; the beautiful part of a marriage where as a result of your love, both of you are blessed with a beautiful child or two. The giggles and witty quips from your child will brighten up your day. However, it is not always beautiful and fun.

Couples who are getting a child (planned or unplanned) should be informed of the financial challenges that await them as soon as they step into parenthood.

A popular figure on Twitter, Effi Saharudin, highlighted in one of his tweets prompted by a reaction of another user being shocked by the price of baby formula.

He revealed that parents will always horde formulas if there are any great deals in town.  From these deals, he could save at least RM100. He also advises young married couples who are not financially ready to wear condoms.

Effi also mentioned that having a kid is very expensive and that’s the reality. This is why he can only afford one child at the moment. Even though he only has one daughter now, but he will try his best to give her the comfort and the benefits for her to enjoy.

His tweet invited more reactions from parents and his followers to share their thoughts and views about parenthood.

So those planning to have children, please plan your finances first. Ignore the pressure from the people around you. If you are not ready for a child, then you shouldn’t have one as at the end of the day, the child is the one who will suffer when their basic needs can’t be fulfilled by you.
