A family of three, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed in a road accident at the Jalan Sultan Ismail intersection today (19 August) after an Immigration Department lorry crashed into them.

We previously reported that the official vehicle had reportedly run a red light before crashing into four pedestrians — a 53-year-old man and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12, who died at the scene. The deceased’s 55-year-old wife also suffered injuries to her head and was rushed to the red zone at Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

Immigration department to conduct internal probe

Following the incident, JIM has issued a statement assuring the public that it will conduct an internal investigation.

The department also said it will fully cooperate with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in determining the cause and circumstances of the accident.

“JIM respects the ongoing investigation and will not make any conclusions ahead of the authorities’ findings. The department also urges members of the public with any information about the incident to assist the authorities with their investigation.

“An internal investigation will also be conducted into compliance with standard operating procedures and safety aspects related to the operation of its department vehicles to ensure the matter is thoroughly reviewed,” the statement read.

“Appropriate action will be taken”

JIM also said that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of both the authorities’ investigation and its own internal probe.

The department also expressed its condolences to the victims’ families following the tragic loss of their loved ones.

“JIM is deeply saddened by the incident, which resulted in loss of life and injuries. The department extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims’ families and prays for those receiving treatment to make a full recovery.

“At the same time, the public is urged to respect the privacy and sensitivity of the victims’ families and refrain from sharing unverified photos, recordings or information to avoid speculation that could affect the investigation,” the statement read.
