Abby Choi’s gruesome murder in Hong Kong recently shocked the world, and many are calling for the return of the death penalty, which was abolished in the country back in 1993. In case you’re wondering what are the punishments that are waiting for Abby’s in-laws, the key lies in the discovery of Abby’s remaining body parts.
Now, Abby’s headless body was found in a refrigerator at an apartment unit, and her skull was found in a soup pot that contained vegetables and minced meat. What’s left for the police to find are Abby’s torso and hands, and they’re working round the clock to locate the body parts.
If the remaining body parts are not found, and if the suspects plead NOT guilty and are convicted of manslaughter, they might get away with just a fine.
To those who are not aware, manslaughter is defined as the unintentional killing of others, while murder is defined as one person killing another person with malice aforethought, as explained by The Law Office of Stein & Markus. Did the mastermind take the process of law into account before killing Abby and disposing of her body parts? Only time will tell.
Both China Press & Sin Chew reported that if Abby’s remaining body parts are not found, there will be a lack of evidence to charge the in-laws for murder. On the other hand, the body parts that have been found are not helping much, especially the cooked ones as forensic experts said that DNA can be easily destroyed under hot temperatures.
“If you can’t identity the victim, how are you going to find out the identity of the killer?” the forensic expert said, and denied that Abby was cooked to be eaten.
According to Channel News Asia, as of this morning (March 1), police in Hong Kong said that they have yet to find anything substantial, but they managed to find some bones, which they could not conclude if they belong to an animal or human.
Abby’s ex-husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and mother-in-law are currently in police custody, and they will not be released on bail. The case has been set for a trial on the 8th of May this year, until then, do stay tuned as we bring you more updates on this murder.
