A popular coffee chain donated RM250,000 to the MERCY Malaysia Palestine Relief Fund to support healthcare, water sanitation, and livelihood programs for Palestinians in need.

Starbucks Malaysia also pitched in another RM250,000 to support artists in the “Starbucks Art For Good: The Bearista Art Project” as a recognition of their talent and contributions, as reported by Berita Harian.

“This is our initiative to make arts more inclusive”

Berjaya Food Bhd Group CEO and Starbucks Malaysia MD, Datuk Sydney Quays, said they were truly inspired by the amazing artists who put their heart and soul into this project and were proud to support them on their creative journey.

The event, which took place at Bukit Jalil from February 22 to 24, 2025, highlighted over 60 Malaysian artists, including deaf and autistic artists, as well as rising art students.

“This initiative shows our commitment to making the arts more inclusive while creating a real impact in both Malaysia and Palestine,” Sydney added.

“Creativity knows no boundaries”

These artists put their creativity to work by designing 25 unique “Life-Sized Bearista” figures, turning Starbucks’ iconic bear into meaningful art pieces.

A lot of them have faced personal struggles, using art as a way to express themselves and share their stories, showing that creativity has no limits.

As the project picked up steam, it grew into a “Mini-Bearista” souvenir collection inspired by the life-sized figures. Now available at all Starbucks outlets nationwide, it gives more people a chance to be part of the campaign while supporting local artists.

In collaboration with local international NGO MERCY Malaysia, customers are also invited to contribute to a greater cause through their purchases.

The event also earned prestigious recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records, receiving the title of “Most ‘Bearista’ Art in a Community Project”, marking a significant milestone in Starbucks Malaysia’s commitment to community engagement.
