Today, (December 22) a former member of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) was sentenced to death by the High Court for killing an elderly woman in a robbery that occurred in 2017.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh after the defense representing the accused, Zarmayade Abdullah, 44, had failed to raise reasonable doubts about the prosecution’s case.
According to a Harian Metro report, during the proceedings, the prosecution called a total of 27 witnesses to testify regarding the case.
According to the charge, Zarmayade was charged with killing Rokiah Mamat, 61, at a house in Kampung Mengkebang, Jalan Batu Lada near Kuala Krai, Kelantan on April 12, 2017.
The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which is punishable by death by hanging if convicted.
Earlier, the accused’s lawyer, Wan Abdullah Thani, in his appeal requested that the court examine the accused’s background before sentencing.
The media had previously reported that Rokiah was found in a blood-stained condition and was believed to have been robbed and killed at her home.
According to the statement from Malaysian Royal Navy (TLDM) he is a member who entered the TLDM service in 1995, he had attend the PASKAL basic course but failed to complete the course.
He was terminated from the TLDM service in April 1997 due to disciplinary problems.
