On June 8, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi asked relevant parties to check up on a certain portion of the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE).

This is due to a growing concern among netizens that the specific section may have widening cracks.

After receiving the minister’s orders, the Malaysian Highway Authority team, SPE concessionaire team and EDP consultant went to the scene to check on the alleged crack at 11:30 pm on June 8.

The Ministry’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account shared a brief statement of the inspection’s results.

Spe Crack June 2024

After careful inspection, all of them have ascertained that the crosshead of the Jalan Cheras flyover does not have a crack.

It turns out that it is just a black line, known as a construction joint, that was the result of previous concreting works. The consultant has also confirmed that the highway portal structure is not affected and is safe.

A comprehensive safety inspection report will be prepared and presented to the Malaysian Highway Authority.

This prompt response and action certainly stood out during this process!

We hope that all authorities will take this as an example and work with the same efficiency.
