With civil servants’ salaries increased by the end of this year, some workers in other sectors still don’t have the luxury of earning more than RM2,800, including fresh grads.

In a post by Xiao Hong Shu (RED) @铁饭网树洞?, a degree holder, who just graduated and “came out of the oven” was shocked to see how tough it has been for her to find a job that pays over RM2,000. Due to personal reasons, she has to stay in Seremban at the time being, and cannot travel to KL or Penang for work.

She found 2 admin jobs but unfortunately, their pay grades were not what she expected. They were not like what she was told back in her college days.

“Both admin jobs pay only RM1,700 to RM1,800. Is this common? I was told that an admin job pays at least RM2,500.”

The fresh graduate was baffled that despite having a degree certificate, she hadn’t been offered more than RM2,000.

“As a degree holder, is it common to start off with less than RM2,000 salary?”

Social media users shared what they really thought of the pay, and while some think that the pay is justifiable due to the location, others thought that RM1,800 as starting salary is too little.

“This pay is considered common at a small place as an admin.”

“Admin job doesn’t require a degree. Since you’re a degree holder, why not find a professional job?”

“I started working in 1995 and the salary back then was already RM2,500. With the increase prices of goods, the salaries for fresh grads are not moving up, but going down. Is there a problem with our country’s economy?”

“10 years back, my 1st job paid me RM2,800. The amount you got is like bullying to me.”

“Admin job only requires you to ‘clean up the mess’, you don’t need a Degree for that.”

“The market in Seremban is smaller, so they can’t afford to pay you more. If possible, come out to the town.”

To those who started as admin, regardless of where you are, how much was your starting salary?
