The festive season is once again around the corner, and this time, it’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

With festive seasons in Malaysia, city councils normally decorate their respective towns while mall managements do the same with their establishments. Though, the quality of the decorations often depends on each individual budgets.

Malaysians are now praising a group of neighbours, who they consider T20 neighbourhood residents, for their effort in putting up their own Hari Raya Aidilfitri decorations for their lorong (street) to greet the festive seasons. The initiative was captured in a video shared by the Sukan Star TV Facebook page.

They wrote, “It’s so much fun being a part of a T20 neighbourhood.”

In the video, the group of neighbours could be seen arranging and hanging up Ketupat and Moon and Star-shaped string lights above their street, going from house to house.

The previous festive season, the Chinese New Year lanterns could still be seen hanging through the street (showcasing multiracial acceptance) as they’re taken down to be replaced with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri decorations.

In the end, they turned on the power to allow the decorations to light up, leaving the street looking beautiful and festive.

Seeing this brought Malaysians joy (and also slight jealousy, but that’s okay) and they praised the neighbours for their harmonious nature.

“It’s great having neighbours like this.”

“Changing from lanterns to Ketupats together. This is 1 Malaysia.”

“It’s not because they’re T20, but because their neighbourly spirit is strong. That’s the recipe.”

Would you do this with your neighbours? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
