Our country certainly has a lot to offer in terms of food.

Taking to Twitter, netizens and Astro Awani correspondent @hafizirosli_  recently shared some great news about a dish that has been elevated to heritage status in Selangor, which is the Nasi Ambeng.

Nasi Ambeng, pronounced “umm-bng”, is a creation typically associated with Malays originating from the Javanese region, currently residing in locations all over the country.

A dish which features an assortment of ‘lauks‘ on a bed of rice, the dish achieved ‘heritage’  status following the announcement by Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

That looks and sounds appetizing AF!

Sharing on social media, @hafizirosli_ writes: “The purpose of the ‘heritage’ status is to ensure that the authenticity of the Nasi Ambeng is maintained.”

Achieving heritage status is important to retain customs associated with the dish.

From Mexico’s culinary techniques and ancestral community customs to the art of making Neapolitan pizza to Singapore’s street food culture – these are some of the culinary traditions that have made it to UNESCO’s list.

We hope that one day Nasi Ambeng will also be recognised internationally and make it into UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage.
