Recently, a new campaign has been formed by the rakyat called #KempenBenderaPutih (White Flag Campaign). This campaign was formed by Malaysians to help the general public who are struggling or going through hardships during the lockdown. Those who are running out of essential goods and are unable to afford more are encouraged to wave a white flag (or place it outside their homes) to indicate that they need help.
It is not a sign of defeat, but a sign of hope and strength of not giving up.
As the campaign is gaining more attention, 99 Speedmart decided to join in the effort by providing food and essential items in a form of care packages for those in need.
In their Facebook post, 99 Speedmart said they would be giving out 1,000 of these care packages to those in need every day, starting 1 July until 14 July.
“If you see anyone in the neighbourhood who has risen a white flag, this is how you can help: Send the following information to our WhatsApp at 010-500 0099 or message us directly on our 99speedmart Facebook account via private message (PM),” they wrote in the post.
They further explained that by coming across a home with a white flag raised, individuals should reach out to them by providing the house address and a picture of the home with the white flag.
The essential goods will then be sent to their homes within 24 hours. However, this only applies to housing areas that have a 99 Speedmart outlet nearby.
99 Speedmart’s post garnered over 67,000 shares, 33,000 likes and 3,300 comments, where netizens praised them for the kind gesture.
If you come across a home with a white flag raised up, please take a picture of the home and send it to 010-500 0099 or message 99 Speedmart on Facebook along with the location of the home.
