In Malaysia, we often come across people who do things that make us uncomfortable or annoy us to the max. However, most of the time, we don’t say anything about it. Shy, lah!

Instead, we try our best to ignore the situation. We think that by ignoring what people do, we won’t hurt the other person’s feelings. However, that’s not the case! By keeping all these things inside, we let these people continue with their bad habits and they also risk getting humiliated later on. Kesian, you know!

So, here are the most common moments Malaysians always complain about but are never brave enough to step up and call out;

1. When you see adults hogging the swings at the playground, so you ask them to move

The swings are meant for the kids, hello! Just because your kid is on the swing next to you doesn’t mean you can hog the swing next to them! Give other kids a chance. Get off, shoo!

2. Asking someone who’s in your way or blocking you to move

This is the worst, especially when you’re at the movies or a concert and there’s someone in front of you maybe holding up their phones, blocking your entire view. Don’t just stand around and not do anything, say something!

3. Telling your colleague/classmate they have bad breath or body odour

Awkwaaard! However, if you think about it, by informing your friend of their bad breath or body odour, you’re saving them from getting publicly humiliated in the future. Additionally, people with bad breath or body odour generally won’t realise it on their own unless someone tells them about it!

4. When someone sitting next to you shakes and moves a lot, and you tell them to stop

I didn’t know my seat was a vibrating massage chair! Whether they’re being restless or maybe they have a bad habit of shaking their legs, they need to remember that they’re in a public place and they have to respect the people around them as well. Don’t just sit around while this person freely shakes in his seat. If I wanted my chair to vibrate, I would’ve gotten my own massage chair, tqvm!

5. Asking the parent of an annoying, screaming baby/kid in the cinema to bring them out

Get them out of here! Especially if it’s a non-child friendly movie that’s showing, babies and kids shouldn’t even be there! So the next time there’s an annoying kid nearby, just turn around, put that all-powerful finger to your lips and ‘SHHH‘ them! I paid for a James Bond movie after all, not a noisy, crying baby!

6. Telling a driver off when he/she tries to double park

You think your grandfather’s road, ah?! We’ve all fallen victims to double parked cars before, and it usually ticks us off like crazy. So when you actually see someone double parking next time, make sure you honk! Be the ultimate Double Down Man or Woman that you are and show them who’s boss! Move it, people!

7. Standing up against racist jokes or remarks

You think you very funny, ah? Far too often, we hear Malaysians making insensitive comments that can sometimes be passed off as a joke, whereas other times, it’s just downright mean. As Malaysians, we need to learn to love and respect one another; and making racist remarks is not one way to do it!

8. When people take up an entire row of seats at public offices, so you ask them to move

Excuse me, your house is it? The seats are for everyone to sit! So if you notice somebody hogging more than one chair for their bags (or sometimes feet), just be bold, go up to them and tell them to put their precious bags or feet on the floor!

9. Telling the person queuing in front of you to stop taking their own sweet time

Especially in restaurants during peak hours! Dah lah, we probably had to wait half an hour in the queue, but when it’s finally time for the person in front of you to order, they take another 10 years to decide. What were you doing the past half an hour?! Faster please, I just want to order my food!!! T_T

We’re willing to bet you relate to at least one of those experiences and there have been countless times where you had to speak up and tell some people off for being behaving nastily. Booo!

Well, hats off to you! Life is tough and sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do; and by stepping up and being bold, you are without a doubt the ultimate Double Down Man or Woman! So, make sure you reward yourself for your bravery and a job well done! With what, you ask? With the ultimate meal from KFC! Duh! What are we talking about?

Well, we’re talking about the KFC Zinger Double Down of course! All meat. No bun. Made for the BOLD!
