Vaccination works!

Malaysia is still recording very high numbers for daily Covid-19 infections, but the increased number of people getting vaccinated is also showing effective results.

On 10 August, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared in a Facebook post that 76.83% of the new 19,991 cases were not vaccinated.

He also reported that 1.9% were in categories 3, 4 and 5 while 98.1% were in categories 1 and 2 (no symptoms and mild symptoms).

Dr Noor Hisham also listed the breakdown of the 19,991 cases by Category as shown below:

  • Category 1 (no symptoms): 9,930 cases, 49.7% (86.8% no history of vaccination)
  • Category 2 (mild symptoms): 9,676 cases, 48.4% (66.9% no history of vaccination)
  • Category 3 (pneumonia): 232 cases, 1.1% (65.9% no history of vaccination)
  • Category 4 (need oxygen assistance): 114 cases, 0.6% (71.1% no history of vaccination)
  • Category 5 (critical, use ventilator): 39 cases, 0.2% (84.6% no history of vaccination)

“This is based on their current clinical condition of those newly diagnosed with Covid-19. Some of them remained in the same category throughout the period of infection. However, some also changed status, either improving or worsening to a higher category,” Dr Hisham said.

“Therefore, get vaccinated immediately so that you and your family are protected from the dangers of Covid-19 infection.”

Please get yourself vaccinated to protect yourself and your loved ones. We can get through this together.
