Being born and bred in Malaysia, we’re probably familiar with the many cultures, languages and different types of slang everyone uses. Besides having our own unique languages like Manglish and Rojak, there are also multiple things only we Malaysians are daring enough to say. See if you relate to any of these everyday Malaysian questions and statements – who knows, you might even be guilty of all some of them!

1. “Got discount ah?” or “No free gift meh?”

Every mother, father, son, daughter, uncle, auntie, in-law has asked these questions before, regardless of where they are and what shop they are in. It could be a retail store at some mall or at your everyday pasar pagi; to us Malaysians, these questions apply everywhere.

Sometimes, even when the answer is a ‘no’, we never seem to trust them. “Really no discount/free gift meh?”

2. “Just park in the housing area lah, don’t have to fight for parking”

Don’t have to pay for parking also! So much win… for us drivers, that is.

3. “What’s your WiFi password?”

Whether we’re at a mamak or a friend’s home, this is one of the first questions we’ll probably ask. Not even “can I have your WiFi password please?”, we just straight up ask you to give us the password.

4. *Grabs your food* and then asks says, “I take ah”

EXCUSE ME, DID I SAY CAN?!

Worst part is, they’re not actually asking for your permission, they’re telling you that they’re about to take your food. Give me back. T_T

5. “Your fridge got nothing to eat one ah?”

We all have that one friend who loves to eat and will always, without fail, rummage through our fridge whenever they’re at our place. Bring your own food lah next time!

6. “I’m just gonna double-park here for awhile”

Not only are we blocking parked cars from coming out of their spaces, but by double-parking, we’re probably obstructing traffic too. So, think twice before you double-park (or triple-park) next time!

7. *Sees that you ate something/went somewhere nice* and says, “Eh, BOJIO”

I don’t have to “jio” you everywhere right?!

Although many people tend to say this as a joke, it can be downright annoying lah. Plis stahp.

8. “Eh, borrow ah, thanks”

It’s annoying! From our favourite tops to our hard drives filled with our favourite TV shows, Malaysians are the type of people who are never paiseh to borrow stuff from one another. Especially if they know you have the full series of WestWorld, confirm they will ask to borrow! And knowing Malaysians, you’ll probably never see your hard drive ever again either.

Well, next time friends or relatives ask to borrow your TV series, we have a quick fix for you! Confirm they have Astro at home, right? Just ask them to connect their PVR to WiFi and voila!

They’ll (finally) have their own personal library of movies and TV series at home!

They can even catch popular Korean dramas like My Mister, The Great Tempter, Queen of Mystery 2, and more without borrowing your hard drive anymore! There’s WestWorld (season 2), Game of Thrones and Star Wars: The Last Jedi too!
