An unusual case has surfaced in China involving an elderly man who purposely shaved years off his real age by changing his birth year on an official document.

The 79-year-old tweaked his birth year on the Home Return Permit without approval, all to sustain his romantic relationship.

His partner wanted someone about 60 years old

According to The Standard, his actual birth year, 1946, was reportedly concealed, making him 10 years younger. Well, at least on that document.

After his wife passed away, he lived alone for several years until his children arranged a blind date for him, during which he experienced an immediate connection with his now partner.

Wanting to meet her preference for someone around 60, he decided to cover his real birth year with a sticker.

He begged the officers to keep his secret from his partner

Recently, Cheng and his partner left mainland China through Louhu Port for an overseas trip.

The couple was later stopped at the immigration checkpoint and separated after officers discovered he had tampered with his birth year on his permit. Despite being caught, he pleaded with the officers to keep his secret.

Since it was his first offence and he quickly admitted to it, the authorities let him off with just a warning instead of a penalty.
