Police were involved in a high-speed chase that lasted for more than an hour after two men refused to stop their car in Shah Alam early this morning (August 5).

Seven police Mobile Patrol Vehicles (MPVs) were called in to chase down the Proton Wira, which was first spotted in the Section 7 Commercial Centre. The nearly 90-kilometre pursuit finally came to an end near the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK).

They were asked to pull over for inspection

Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, said police on MPV patrol in Section 7 came across the suspects driving suspiciously at around 1:30 AM, according to Harian Metro.

“The officers used the siren and loudspeaker to get the driver to pull over for inspection, but instead, he sped off. After nearly an hour-long chase around Shah Alam, the car was finally stopped in Section 9, right in front of the Selangor police headquarters,” he said.

Two brothers, aged 18 and 24, were later arrested. Police also found a bottle under the front passenger seat containing liquid suspected to be ketum water.

The older suspect has prior drug-related offences

Mohd Iqbal said further checks showed the 24-year-old suspect has five previous drug-related offences, while the younger one has no criminal record.

He also mentioned that a remand application for both suspects was submitted at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court at 10am today.

“If anyone has more information about the case, please get in touch with Criminal Investigation Officer Inspector S. Nawinthan at 016-2052314,” he added.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
