A 68-year-old dementia patient in China was involved in an incident that was caught on CCTV with another patient, leaving him with blurred vision in his left eye and complete blindness in his right eye.

According to the victim’s son, Wong, his father’s hands were tied during the incident, while the patient next to him had only one hand restrained, as reported by Kwong Wah.

The other patient gouged his father’s eye out

Wong recalled the horrifying moment when the patient turned over and gouged his father’s eyeball out of its socket, forcing his father to undergo three surgeries.

He mentioned that while a nurse initially tried to stop the attack, she allegedly left the scene shortly after, and added that the hospital should be held primarily responsible for the incident.

“If the patient’s hands had been properly restrained, he wouldn’t have been able to roll over, let alone scratch my father’s eyes. This happened entirely because of the hospital’s poor management,” he said.

Wong’s family was advised to take legal action

Following the incident, Wong’s father was sent to a hospital in Wuhan for treatment, with most of the medical expenses covered by the hospital. He remained there for nearly 10 days before being transferred back to the psychiatric facility for continued care.

Additionally, it was reported that the entire department was later disciplined accordingly.

The psychiatric hospital later advised Wong and his family to take legal action to protect their rights. However, while his father is now pursuing legal compensation, his Alzheimer’s condition has made it difficult to undergo a proper judicial assessment.
