A 5-year-old boy was found dead due to suffocation after being trapped inside a school van in Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru, yesterday afternoon (April 30).
According to a report by Kosmo, Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan shared that the victim was found in an unconscious state in a school van at about 12pm, having been trapped inside the van for almost 5 hours.
The boy, who attended a kindergarten in Taman Bukit Indah, was said to have boarded the van from his family home before arriving in front of his kindergarten at about 7:30am.

“The victim is believed to have been left behind after the van driver dropped off other children in front of the kindergarten at 7:30am. The victim was then found unconscious at around 12pm,” he said.
The boy’s body has since been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for post-mortem.
The van driver was arrested
Following this, the police arrested the 56-year-old van driver at around 2:40pm in Taman Bukit Indah.
A record check found that he does not have any prior criminal records, and he was found negative for drug abuse.
He has been remanded for 7 days, starting yesterday, to assist in the investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which is the offence of ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children.
