57 illegal street racers or ‘mat rempit’ in Kulai, Johor finally surrendered to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) during Hari Raya Aidilfitri yesterday (22 April 2023) after hiding in a palm oil plantation.

According to the Kulai District Police, the mat rempits, all of them are men aged between 17 to 42 had been hiding in the plantation at Kilometre 7 at Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi since 3am yesterday.

During an operation since the eve of Aidilfitri, most of these mat rempits ran away from PDRM and hid in the plantation. Moreover, they tried to escape through ‘rat routes’ but the Kulai Police managed to surround the area, preventing them to do so.

Kulai District Police Chief Supt Tok Beng Yeow confirmed that two officers and 13 personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division were involved in the Special Operation, which itself was part of Op Selamat 20.

Some told the police that they were hungry and missed the Aidilfitri delicacies, while others said that they couldn’t stand the hot conditions in the plantations.
