During this pandemic, many are suffering including the lower-income groups and those who have lost their jobs.
Another community that is struggling are those working in the tourism and hospitality industry, which is why they have to come up with alternative ways to keep their businesses afloat.
The Hatten Hotel in Melaka is now offering drive-thru-styled budget rice, starting from only RM2. The five-star hotel took to their Facebook page to promote their initiative.
They wrote, “Grab our ‘Nasi Bajet’ promotion exclusively during MCO at our drive-in street food fair located next to H&M. Prepared daily by our chefs, our ‘Nasi Bajet’ promotion starts as low as RM2.”
Hatten Hotel’s Head Chef, Badrol Hisham Mohd Ali, shared with Bernama, that the initiative was coordinated due to there being no customers staying at the hotel and because their restaurant remained closed.
“Apart from generating hotel revenue affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the sale of budget rice is also expected to give some joy to the people whose income is adversely affected, to get a meal at a cheaper price,” he said, adding that the response has been good, with around 500 people visiting daily.
The budget rice basically consists of white rice served with a piece of chicken or fish and some vegetables.
“There are also other side dishes such as ayam madu, ayam percik, cakes, and cookies, but they are sold separately,” he added.
This initiative is truly a win-win situation for all as not only is it helping the hotel stay on its feet but it is also providing affordable, hearty meals to those who are struggling.
Kudos, Hatten Hotel!
