If you’ve ever had to deal with broken microwaves or water purifiers that don’t work anymore, you’ll understand how costly it can be to repair or replace them. Sometimes, repairing an appliance could cost almost as much as getting a new one!

Now, before you dash out to replace your old or broken appliances, here are a few things you can think about to save yourself some money:

1. Find appliances with a 5-star energy consumption rating

Fridge Energy 1

Appliances like refrigerators and washing machines today are far more advanced than the ones of yesteryear. They’ve been developed to function at more efficient energy levels that could save you a lot of money when the electricity bill comes! All you have to do is check if the appliance you’re getting has a 5-star energy consumption rating before you buy one. More stars = more savings!

2. Buy appliances only when there is a sale or during home expos for big discounts

Home Expo 1

Appliances normally get big discounts during any sale season. All you have to do is be a little patient and you could get a new refrigerator or oven at half the price or even lesser! Good things come to those who wait, we say.

Some of the best places to get discounted appliances are at home expos! Here are a few of the biggest annual Malaysian home expos you can check out:

  1. MyHome
  2. HOMEs – Home Living Exhibition
  3. Modern Living Home Expo
  4. Big Home Expo
  5. HOMEDEC

Some of these exhibitions may have been postponed due to COVID-19 but there are a few that are still happening. Just remember to follow the SOPs and shop safely!

3. Consider the size of the appliance and where you’re going to place it in your house

Fridge Too Big

Appliances like washing machines have pipes that dump out water after a wash and you can’t simply place the washing machine in another spot as the pipe can’t be moved. The same goes for refrigerators which need sufficient space as well as a power outlet to function. Measure the area first before you get stuck with a giant refrigerator or washing machine that won’t fit in your home.

4. Know your warranties and what’s covered under them

Appliance Salesman Warranty 3

A smart thing to do before making a big appliance purchase is to find out every last detail of the warranty that comes with the machine. Be aware of what is (and isn’t) covered under the manufacturer and retailer warranty. This could save you a lot of money should the machine need repairs or servicing within the first one or two years of use.

You might also want to check on the return policy in case the machine is faulty and you need to return or exchange it for a new one. It’s really just a simple matter of checking and it won’t take all of your time at the shop!

5. Rent appliances so you don’t have to worry about overspending

Washing Machine Rent

A good thing about renting appliances is that you only have to pay a fraction of their value per month. It also provides flexibility as our needs change over time. Feel like your water purifier is too large or not good enough? Send the current one back and rent a slimmer and better one.

On top of that, most rental appliances come with servicing by the company that rents them out. For example, some companies that rent out air purifiers would provide after-sales services such as changing out the filters and checking the machine for any problems.

Rental appliances are also great for both long or short term use. If you have a short term lease on an apartment or house, it wouldn’t make sense to buy large appliances. Renting them would be much more convenient when the time comes for you to move out.

Well, if you are looking to rent a water or air purifier, then LG PuriCare™ Rent & Chill is just the thing for you!
