On Wednesday evening (17th April), a 4-year-old boy was nowhere to be found just hours after attending his kindergarten’s sports day rehearsal.

According to Harian Metro, the boy’s mother realised something was amiss at 4.50pm as she was waiting to welcome her son home. Putrajaya district police chief AC Rosly Hassan stated that prior to this incident, the child’s school transported him and his classmates to Padang Agrobank, Bangi.

He added that the kindergarten already searched the entire school, but did not manage to find the 4-year-old. The police chief was quoted as saying,

“After that, investigating officers and a detective arrived at the kindergarten to investigate the matter. It was found that there were no CCTVs in the kindergarten and the teachers were being questioned.”

“The child in question took part in the sports day rehearsal with 87 other students at the Agrobank Training Centre in Bangi. Three school buses were used to transport the children to and from the kindergarten.”

He added that all students were accompanied by 11 teachers in total. Investigations found that the teachers did headcounts and searched the premises before leaving the sports day rehearsal venue. They found that the number of students was the same as when they had left the school earlier that day.

“However, when they arrived at the kindergarten, the teachers did not do another headcount but instead instructed the children to return to their respective classes,” AC Rosly Hassan added.

“At 3.20pm, a teacher realised that the boy was not in the class, but his school bag was still there. However, the teacher assumed that he was with his parents.”

Then, at 7.05pm, one of the bus drivers was contacted by the school and after the bus was inspected, the child was found sleeping on one of the seats.

The police then made their way to the bus driver’s house in Cheras to pick the child up and reunite him with his parents.

Well, we’re glad that this kid was found safe and sound! Let’s hope that his teachers remain extra vigilant to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
