A kind-hearted counseling teacher known as Maisarah Hannan, is using her own money to buy and distribute food supplies for students and their families who are struggling financially during this CMCO period.
The 35-year-old educator said she felt saddened by the influx of messages she’s received from students who are asking for the provision of basic necessities, primarily food. She decided to take matters into her own hands and used her money as a start to find ways of helping these poor kids access a food supply.
“They don’t ask for much. They just want food. I tried finding ways to provide for them, including using my own money and getting as much help as I can from other fellow teachers,” said the generous teacher in a statement recorded by Harian Metro.
“Some students come from underprivileged families and their parents have either been laid off or can’t find jobs during this Covid-19 pandemic. My colleagues and I went down to the villages to distribute basic necessities to the students’ houses. I have kept up with this effort because I know many of them are affected by this pandemic, especially with the high amount of cases recorded in Sabah at this time,” she added.
Maisarah is originally from Tawau but works in a secondary school in Sandakan. She has been providing assistance to underprivileged students since the first MCO started in March. “This effort has received a lot of support from external parties and available funds are increasing thanks to public contributions. The help came in after many people shared my Facebook post about this effort.”
“I get information from Facebook about people who need help. They message me and ask for assistance. Usually, after they give their address, I will send a supply of food with a friend. Other times, I find people in need through my own surveys or other assisting comrades,” added Maisarah who said that some members of the public are even regular contributors to her cause.
“We are helping as much as we can. Hopefully, this contribution can ease some of their burdens,” said the kind educator.
This isn’t the first time Maisarah has been feeding the needy. Her commendable efforts started a while ago back in 2017. Last year, the teacher made headlines for buying kuih for her students several days a week after noticing that they had nothing to eat in school. She also bought new school shoes for a student after she saw the child wearing ripped ones to school.
Kudos to Maisarah for her wonderful effort!
