Just last month, Malaysians were shocked when news of Raj’s Banana Leaf getting closed down began to surface after a video of its workers washing dishes in puddle water on the roadside went viral.
Soon after its closure, authorities then proceeded to temporarily close three other famous restaurants in Petaling Jaya after rat and insect infestations were found in their premises. Now, it looks like some restaurants in Penang have also faced the same fate recently!
According to the Malay Mail, three famous nasi kandar restaurants, seven other eateries and two food processing factories were shut down by the Penang State Health Department for violating health and hygiene standards.
These establishments were ordered to close for two weeks after the Health Department inspected 29 premises in George Town between 8pm and 11pm last night (12th July). The three famous nasi kandar restaurants that were ordered to close down are located in the following areas of George Town;
- Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling
- Little India
- Chulia Street
Inspectors even came across a cockroach nest in one of the restaurants. Oh hell no!
Now, operators of the affected eateries will have to conduct cleaning work immediately to keep up with hygiene and health standards.
Let’s hope these restaurants do their best to maintain cleanliness levels for the sake of its customers!
