Dangerous driving reminiscent of scenes from a street‑racing film has backfired for a man who was detained by police after performing a drifting stunt at Genting Highlands.
Bentong District Police Chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said authorities detected a 14‑second video clip that went viral on TikTok on 2 March, showing the reckless act. The video features a BMW 325i being driven dangerously, drifting from left to right while navigating a bend on the road leading to Genting Highlands.

“Initial investigations found that the driver had deliberately carried out reckless drifting at a road corner, an act that could endanger other road users,” he said in a statement this morning (7 March).
The suspect turned himself in
Following the circulation of the viral clip, police launched efforts to trace the individual involved. At about 11am yesterday (6 March), a 29‑year‑old local man turned himself in at the Traffic Office of the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD).
“He arrived together with the vehicle believed to have been used in the incident. The suspect was subsequently detained, and the vehicle was also seized for further action,” Zaiham said.

He added that an initial urine screening test on the suspect returned negative for drugs. However, the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
If convicted, offenders under this provision can face severe penalties, including fines, imprisonment, and suspension or revocation of their driving licence.
Authorities also reminded motorists to drive responsibly and obey traffic laws, stressing that dangerous stunts on public roads not only violate the law but also put the lives of other road users at serious risk.
