One of the many things that Malaysians have been fighting for is higher pay. While the minimum wage has been raised to RM1,800 per month, it’s safe to say that with the rising costs of things, RM1,800 is not enough to survive on.
Just recently, a Malaysian woman shared a story about her friend. In her post she said, “I’m currently 27, and I’ve got no house, no car and no boyfriend. What makes it worse is that I don’t even have a driver’s license.”
She then continued saying that she has a salary of less than RM2,000 a month and even though she graduated with first-class honours, it doesn’t mean anything in the work force.
“I am a receiver of the Anugerah Tokoh Pelajar as I scored well in my STPM and right now, I’m contemplating my life because it seems like this award was what gave me a glimpse of hope that I will do well in life,” she added.
Her friend continued mentioning how she feels the societal pressure that she needs to find a boyfriend and get married soon because her cousins are already having their second child.
She even expressed that she wants to end her life because she thinks that the state she is currently in will be the rest of her life.
“I didn’t know what else to say to her other than listening because I understnad what she’s going through,” she added.
She ended the post by saying,
“This is the harsh reality of life, we’re all just struggling.”
Netizens chimed in to help the woman
Many netizens were quick to show their support and offered some encouraging words.
“Your results are so good; you should consider being a teacher. I may not know what you studied but I’m sure private and government schools would need teachers that have good results, and their salary would be more than RM3,000 a month.”
Another commented, :I think you should find a better job perhaps on JobStreet, as long as you have experience, your salary can go up to RM5,000. Just don’t work for nothing.”
“My university friend graduated and not long after he was diagnosed with cancer. After he was diagnosed, he passed away a year later. As long as you’re living, there’s still hope! Don’t give up!”
One netizen said, “This is life, you can never be the best because there will always be someone better. Try to learn how to let go, you’ll be happier. Someone people couldn’t even live to see their 27th birthday. Life is very short, please don’t live your life based on the timeframe society created.”
Life is tough but that doesn’t mean you should give up. We hope that everyone will be able to find something in life that’s worth living for. If you’re in need of a listener, please reach out to Befrienders KL at 03-76272929.
