Partying during your holidays is all well and good but please, do so responsibly and be careful about how you spend your money. You don’t want your fun holiday to have an abrupt horrible ending, right? Just have some self-control lah, okay?
This Malaysian did not heed this advice and as a result, he has been charged by the Mueng police in Chiang Mai after filing a false report, claiming he was robbed by a Western tourist at knife-point in Thailand. Pravin Krishnan, 20, was detained at 3am on Friday (17 August), about two hours after he filed the report.
When they first received the report, the Mueng police immediately went to the ‘scene of the crime’ to investigate. They interviewed the residents there but did not find anything to support the claim.
The Mueng police source said, as quoted by Malay Mail,
“We did not find any evidence of robbery and when asked, the Malaysian man eventually admitted that he had falsely filled the report as a ruse after spending all his money at a bar.”
The source further elaborated that the man told the police that the report was needed so that he can convince his father to send more money to enable him to return to Malaysia as he was now broke.
He said that he did not have any money left after spending all of it at the bar which amounted to about 16,000 Baht (RM2,000) there. Wah! Spend so much for what?
At the moment, he could be facing charges which can have him spending up to three years in prison and a fine of 10,000 Baht (RM1,240).
That’s not all, he is in bigger trouble as he tried to bribe the police there with 20,000 Baht (RM2,500) to drop the charges. The police source said, “The Malaysian might be thinking that this is a joke, offering payment for us to forget the case. It doesn’t work like that. Just imagine if a man was falsely accused of robbing someone. That individual could be spending the rest of his life in prison.” Wah, after cheating, dare to bribe some more.
It is believed that Parvin has been denied bail and will be under police custody until his court hearing which might happen after a week. The father of the man would be arriving in Chiang Mai soon in order to handle the matter.
