18 Arrested Following Riot Over Liquor Auction Prices During Event at Johor Primary School Hall

Due to being dissatisfied with the auction price of liquor, a group of men threw chairs at the stage of an event that was held in a primary school hall in Pekan Nanas, Johor, at about 11:30pm on Saturday (July 5).

According to a report by Kosmo, the Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, shared that the police have since arrested 18 men, aged between 17 and 48 years old, who were suspected of being involved in the riot.

“A team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ), Pontian Police District Headquarters (IPD), rushed to the scene of the incident and arrested the suspects. An investigation paper has been opened under Sections 148 and 427 of the Penal Code, relating to rioting,”

“Initial investigations found that the fight broke out when a group was dissatisfied with the price of alcohol being offered during an auction at the event,” Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib explained.

A blurry video of the incident has since been circulating on social media, showcasing chairs being thrown at the event stage by a group of individuals.
