A 14-year-old girl was raped by a 30-year-old man who she had just met on social media.
Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, said that in the incident last March, the victim and her female friend were riding a motorcycle from Tumpat, Kelantan, before their motorcycle broke down in the Gerik area in Perak. Both girls, however, successfully hitched a ride to Kulim, Kedah, which was just another 30 KM away, where the victim met the suspect, a labourer.
The victim was then taken to a location and raped.

He said the parents of the two girls involved had previously filed a police report after realising their daughters had been missing for four days.
“After an investigation, the victim was then sent to the hospital where she was examined. It was confirmed that she had been raped,” Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said at a press conference today (June 3).
The suspect has also been detained by police. Initial investigations found that the main cause of this influence was related to the victim’s inclination towards pornographic material and the negative influence of social media.

Underage kids are crossing borders to meet social media contacts
According to him, the case exposed a worrying trend where minors dare to travel across states to meet social media contacts without their parents’ knowledge, and the children are getting bolder due to the lack of supervision from adults.
Datuk Mohd Yusoff also said that with the increasing trend in these cases, parents should strictly monitor their children, especially those in rural areas.
