14 Locations In Langkawi Were Visited By Covid-19-Positive Individual From Sungai Cluster

An individual who tested positive for Covid-19 from the Sungai Cluster in Kedah and Perlis has been discovered to have visited 14 locations in Langkawi last week.

According to Langkawi district health officer Dr Mohd Lutpiyudin Azidin, investigations found the individual was on the island on 5 September and left the following day on 6 September.

Authorities have started conducting Covid-19 screening test on close contacts of the individual and those who had contact with the infected individual have been asked to get tested at the Kuah Health Clinic at 2pm today (9 September).

“Starting at 10 am today, the Langkawi district health office staff went to 14 locations that had been visited by the Covid-19 positive individual such as restaurants, accommodation and tourist attractions,” Dr Mohd Lutpiyudin said, according to Bernama.

“We have asked close contacts at risk from the 14 locations to come and take the COVID-19 screening test which is conducted starting at 2 pm at the Kuah Health Clinic.”

He added that the public is advised to continue complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“I ask the public not to panic, continue to adhere to SOPs such as maintaining physical distancing. Owners of business premises, hotels and so on must ensure that visitors’ records are taken to facilitate contact tracking,” he said.

According to the Ministry of Health, the latest report on 8 September regarding the Sungai Cluster are as follows:

Kedah (470 screened):

  •  25 positive cases
  • 31 negative cases
  • 414 awaiting results.

Penang (5 screened):

  • 0 positive cases
  • 5 awaiting results

Perlis (4 screened):

  •  1 positive case
  • 3 awaiting results
