Lately, many Malaysians have taken it upon themselves to help the nation out of the RM1 trillion debt we’ve accumulated by donating to the Tabung Harapan Malaysia fund.
Donating along with these Malaysians is 12-year-old Ervin Devadason who decided to contribute his eight months’ worth of savings to THM, reported The Malay Mail.
Hoping to relieve the country’s burden in the slightest bit, Ervin donated his savings that he initially wanted to use to buy the drum set of his dreams. Such a noble gesture by a 12-year-old!
“During and after the elections, I followed the news closely and saw that Malaysia needed help, so I decided to donate whatever I have as my part to contribute.”
“I have been saving up about eight months and I was planning to buy a drum set with the money,” said the primary school boy.
Ervin handed over his coin bank to DAP veteran leader, Lim Kit Siang while being witnessed by Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh during a symbolic event at the DAP Segambut parliamentary office.
Hannah Yeoh said that Ervin’s father’s initially sent an email to her revealing his son’s “passion over the current development in the country” and his keen interest to donate to the national debt fund.
She was quoted as saying,
“This is the beautiful thing about Malaysia after May 9th, the young and old all want to play their part just to make Malaysia better.”
True that!
However, the content of Ervin’s coin bank was not disclosed because it is yet to be counted. Whatever the amount may be, surely it will still make a difference!
Kudos to Ervin for showing interest in the country’s economy and politics at such a young age. We hope that many youngsters will be inspired by Ervin’s concern for the country’s well-being and adopt the same attitude. Also, we thank Ervin for his kind donation to THM. Great move, boy!
It’s definitely inspiring to see every Malaysian, no matter young or old, joining hands to solve a national crisis. We are sure that this teamwork will only make the nation stronger and richer. Keep it up, fellow Malaysians!
PS: If you wish to donate to the fund, here’s how you can do so!
