In the past decade, there has been an influx of students joining the IT sector thanks to its booming market. Nowadays, pretty much everyone owns a computer, laptop, smartphone; so much so that many people can’t live without technology anymore. Not even for 24 hours!

Well, seeing as our smartphones are an all-in-one device where it acts as a telephone, TV, calculator, alarm clock, music player, and more, what are we without one?

Hence, all the more reason for additional IT specialists.

Of course, there’ll always be a group of ignorant people asking some pretty darn annoying questions which will make anyone in the IT sector cringe super hard. Here are some typical examples.

1. Can you help me fix my PC?

Do I look like a computer wizard to you?

2. Something is wrong with my internet…

Nobody cares.

3. Can you help me hack into this?

Hacking is illegal so please don’t ask people to do wrong things for your personal gain. Even if they can do it, they shouldn’t. They could get in trouble!

4. Do you know how to edit videos or photos?

Video and photo editing are not exactly synonymous with IT. Just because they’re done on the computer doesn’t mean that everyone in the IT sector knows how to use Photoshop.

5. I think my phone has got a virus, can you help me fix it?

There are many different types of technology in the world. Phones aren’t the same as computers, so asking an IT student or graduate won’t be exactly helpful. You might as well bring it to the phone shop.

6. I have an idea for this app, can you do it for me?

7. I want to build a website, can you help me?

8. You do it for me for free lah… I’ll belanja you makan

Do you think people can pay bills by getting free food for their service?

No. So, pay people actual money, ok.

9. I’ll repay you with free exposure

And I’ll just ignore you.

10. Oh, you must be a gamer…

Just because someone is studying information technology doesn’t mean they are a gamer. In fact, there are many IT students and graduates who don’t even like gaming.

11. Your job is easy, you just need to tap on your computer

Why don’t you try tapping on your computer and see if you can magically produce the same thing that an IT student does.

12. What computer should I get?

X Things Malaysians Who Study It Are Sick Of Hearing - World Of Buzz 11

You can get whatever computer you want depending on your budget, what you like and what you’re looking for. That’s none of the IT students’ concern.

IT people aren’t technology magicians, and they absolutely don’t know everything under the umbrella. IT is such a wide spectrum that covers all sorts of specialties.

Just because someone does IT doesn’t mean they would know networking, photo or video editing, hardware, software, UI/UX, and other areas.

Try to be more considerate of what you ask of them the next time, ok? They’ll appreciate it fo sho!
