Ever since the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported that a new Covid-19 cluster was detected from 1 Utama, people have been avoiding going to the Petaling Jaya mall as several other employees began testing positive as well.
Not long after that, the Utama Cluster reported close to 200 cases with the latest update showing that six new cases were recorded on 18 October, bringing the total number to 183, according to the MOH.
However, on 17 October, 1 Utama reopened the mall after conducting disinfection and sanitisation of the premises.
“Our mall remains open during CMCO from 17 – 27 October 2020 with opening hours of 10am to 10pm daily. While some tenants will operate under flexible business hours from 11am to 8pm daily,” they said.
“Combined with massive sanitization efforts in strict accordance to MOH standard operating procedures (SOP’s), 1 Utama will continue to provide a safe shopping experience with round-the-clock cleaning using hospital grade disinfectants and purifying air via high efficiency filters and powerful UV lights.”
But despite 1 Utama’s efforts in ensuring that the mall is safe for visitation again, people are still remaining cautious towards the area and have avoided going there altogether.
Videos and photos on social media show the mall with empty walkways with only one or two people in sight.
But 1 Utama has assured the public that it is now safe for them to visit the mall as they have implemented high standards in their SOP’s in accordance with the MOH guidelines.
“We understand that many maybe still concerned, but please let us assure you that we have made sure that all who are working in 1 Utama including our auxiliary police and security forces have strictly been screened and cleared for duty.”
“We’re also pretty sure you’ve heard about the ‘talk of the town’ RM1.5m unprecedented mass swab test exercise and massive sanitisation efforts that we have conducted for your peace of mind.”
“We kindly ask our guests to follow safety SOP’s in place when visiting including mandatory face masks and temperature screenings.”
If you’re planning to visit 1 Utama again, please adhere to the SOP’s that they’ve set in place. But better still, just stay at home for the time being unless you have important matters to attend to.
