An elderly man made the mistake of his life after he lent his bank card to his friend, who ended up using it to conduct scams, causing him to be banned from banking facilities in Malaysia.

Philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, took to his Facebook page to share the sad story after he had met up with the elderly man to hear his story.

He wrote, “He is 70 years old. He is banned from any banking facilities. He lent his bank card to a friend, and that friend used it to conduct scams. He was arrested numerous times and had paid all his dues with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).”

“The worst thing to happen (to anyone). At the age of 70, he experiences difficulties in having a bank account. Without a bank account, how can the Social Welfare Department (JKM) provide aid money to him each month?”

The elderly man also refused to be placed in an elderly care centre or go to a hospital due to having a high blood sugar reading.

Uncle Kentang went on to explain that his party has provided the elderly man with assistance, including RM210 for his rent and RM100 for food.

He also ensured that his party would seek assistance with JKM and Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) in helping the elderly man gain a bank account.

What would you have done if you were in the elderly man’s shoes? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
