Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reiterated his and Umno’s stance that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is innocent following the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision earlier today ordering the latter to enter defence for 25 corruption charges relating to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

In a statement on his official Facebook page, Zahid, who is also Umno President, asserted that he represents Umno, Barisan Nasional (BN), as well as a dear friend of Najib, in believing that the former Prime Minister is in the right.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes Najib will prove his innocence in court

However, Zahid assured that he respects the rule of law and has no intention to question the decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court to order Najib to enter defence for the charges.

Instead, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the decision doesn’t prove that Najib is guilty, but rather, it is an opportunity for the former Prime Minister to defend himself and prove that he is innocent.

Zahid asserted,

“We will continue to support Najib and ensure he will get justice. We will also always pray for the real culprit behind the 1MDB embezzlement to be brought to face justice, and hopefully, Datuk Seri Najib will get his due justice.”
