You might have to pay an extra RM5 or RM10 for a haircut or hair styling soon. This is due to the increase in operating costs to provide the necessary equipment for the barber or hair salon operator to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP).
A representative of Gabungan Pendandan Rambut Malaysia, Bambang Sutrisno Soteto said, as reported by Berita Harian, that the matter has been agreed by seven barber associations: Persatuan Pendandan Malaysian (MHA); Persatuan Pendandan Bumiputera (BUHA); Persatuan Penggunting Rambut Bumiputera (MBBA); Persatuan Pembangunan Kemahiran Dandanan Rabut (HSDA); Persatuan Pemerkasaan JurugayaRambut India Malaysia (MIHASS); Persatuan Pengusaha Jurugaya Rambut India Malaysia (MINDAS) and Persatuan Jurugaya Rambut India Selangor Wilayah Persekutuan (PJRISWP). He said,
“The increase is minimal. Besides, operators or owners need to consider that the number of customers will decrease following the implementation of government-mandated SOPs. These increases also takes into account the current situation and the customers. Now is not the time for us to make a profit but instead focus on getting back into operation.”
SOPs that need to be followed includes workers needing to wear half-face masks; disposable gloves and apron. Towels cannot be shared between customers, and the distance between the barber chairs must be at least two meters. We do believe that this is a small price to pay to ensure the Covid-19 risk is kept very low.
