Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has addressed the recent controversy surrounding a Malaysian woman who allegedly married a second husband in secret while still being married to her first husband.
As we’ve shared previously, the woman allegedly married her second husband in Songkhla, Thailand, and every day, she spent her day with him before returning to her first husband, who lived 19km away. However, the first husband has since broken his silence, claiming that he had divorced her in 2022 but didn’t report it to the Islamic Religious Office.

KPWKM will prioritise the welfare of the children involved in the case
Speaking to the media, BERNAMA quoted Nancy Shukri as saying that she would obtain detailed information on the matter. She added that her ministry will prioritise the welfare and well-being of the children involved in the case.
The KPWKM Minister added that the case is currently being handled by the Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department and falls under the jurisdiction of the state’s religious authorities.

“Matters related to religion and the law will be referred to the relevant ministries and agencies in accordance with their respective jurisdictions,” she commented.
However, Nancy stressed that KPWKM will examine the matter once a full report is received to determine the appropriate steps that can be taken to assist the children involved.
Specifically, KPWKM will assess the form of assistance that could be provided, so that the children’s welfare will continue to be safeguarded.
