Scary as it may be, it’s undeniable that women who travel solo in public are usually at higher risk of danger. This rang true for a female commuter who was embarking from an MRT station, when she got mugged and robbed!
Taking place at the Taman Mutiara MRT station in Cheras at 6:45am, the 48-year-old woman had been followed into the lift by the mysterious attacker. This even happened during Valentine’s day! Once the two were inside, the man took a glance at the CCTV, and waited for the door to close. As seen in the video, he swung a punch at the woman, causing her to fall on the ground, during which he attempted to snatch her handbag.
While the victim was down, she was not yet out, as she continued to hold on to her handbag. The thief kicked the woman repeatedly to force her to let go, and all she could do was use her hands to shield her head from the heavy blows. Even once the thief had grab-hold of her handbag, CCTV footage showed the woman waving her hands at the thief, seemingly pleading with the thief to not do this.
As if that wasn’t harrowing enough, the thief aggressively kicked the woman once again as she stood up, and swung her handbag to hit her head. The heavy beating rendered the woman completely helpless, and it was then that the thief removed her purse, before flinging away the handbag and making a run for it.
According to the Chief of KL police Criminal Investigation Department SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa, the woman lost her personal identification documents and RM400 in total, Oriental Daily reported. She also sustained injuries all over the body, as well as a swollen forehead, and was promptly taken to the hospital after the deeply unfortunate incident occurred. All that for only RM400!!
In their search for the suspect, SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa expressed they have recorded statements from three individuals, and are now looking for an Indian male. Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, which presides over the MRT, has also stated they will give their full cooperation on this investigation.
