Despite the various advancements made in the world of technology, most of our official documents such as our birth certificate, IC, and driving license are still in physical form without a digital alternative.
Recently, a Malaysian called on the authorities to improve and find alternatives for our physical road tax stickers as they can be extremely inconvenient and troublesome.
In a tweet by @Injang_Nation in response to another user showing off how they had bought a separate holder for their road tax sticker, Injang questioned why road tax stickers are still physical instead of digital.
“The design isn’t intelligent, it spoils the front mirror. It should be more advanced now and we could just make it digital. But, dinosaurs are the ones in power. Later on, the cronies of said dinosaurs won’t receive projects.”
Others agreed with him!
Injang’s tweet went viral and currently sits on over 5,676 likes and 4,087 shares at the time of writing. Plenty of other netizens shared similar views as he does on the matter.
“They should just turn it into a QR code. Weird. You can simplify things but you wanna take the hard way,” commented a user.
Another user sarcastically highlighted how it would be impossible to abolish it as the stickers allow “cronies” to make a lot of money from it.
“Exactly my thoughts yesterday when I was putting mine on. Come on it’s 2022 now, this thing is very troublesome and irrelevant,” said another user.
Meanwhile, another user said that we should just stop paying for road tax because “road tax is paid to the JPJ, but the JPJ don’t even make or repair roads.”
The bigger issue
On the other hand, some users said that the issue is not just limited to road tax stickers and that it’s the more widespread issue of not being able to integrate multiple important documents into a single one.
“The smart chip inside our IC should be completed with a person’s full information including their driving license. But we still want to use a separate card for that. Isn’t that stupid and a waste,” stated a user.
“The MSC technology we have was promoted the first time ICs were introduced in the early 2000s with it to be integrated with driving licenses,” explained a user.
“20 years later our driving license is still a separate card. What is this.”
Do you agree? Should everything be integrated to make things more convenient and less wasteful?
