Batu Uban assemblyman Kumaresan Aramugam is calling out the City Council of Penang Island (MBPP) for their alleged lack of action following a complaint about a cockroach leg found in food served at an eatery there.
Taking to his Facebook page, the ADUN explained how a member of his staff had gone with their family to eat at the restaurant on Saturday (14 March), only to find a cockroach leg in their food.

He wrote, “On 14 March 2026, my staff and their family dined at (eatery) at Lorong Pitt. While eating, they found a cockroach leg in the food served, a situation that is clearly unacceptable in any food premises.”
“More disappointingly, when a complaint was made to the restaurant staff, it was completely ignored, and no apology was given. This careless attitude shows a very low level of concern for customers.”
The staff member had informed the ADUN of this matter, which led the ADUN to advise the staff member to file an official complaint with MBPP and the health authorities.
Why was no action taken?
Kumaresan went on to highlight that the authorities had not taken action against the eatery besides a routine inspection, to which the authorities allegedly stated that they were satisfied with the restaurant’s level of cleanliness.

“I often see on social media that the authorities are taking strict action in cases involving food hygiene. However, in this case, the situation seems different. If such an offence was committed by a small stall, the premises would likely have been ordered to close for 14 days.”
“I do not intend to stir up any controversy, but the question that arises is: when the public makes a complaint, complete with photographic evidence, in this case of a cockroach leg in the food, why is no action taken against the restaurant owner? Does the law only apply to small traders and those who do not have influence?”
WORLD OF BUZZ has since reached out to MBPP for comment, but has yet to hear back.
