We simply love it when tourists come to our country and enjoy all the food, history and culture we have to offer and go above and beyond to promote Malaysia to others!
However, there is often a line that needs to be drawn between appreciating their efforts instead of straight up worshipping them or prioritising them over anything else.
Recently, a popular local tourism Twitter page took to the platform to accuse the official Tourism Malaysia Instagram page of preferring to share posts by foreign influencers rather than actual Malaysians.
In a post by @Travel Jimat, they shared an instance of how the Instagram page of tourism Malaysia had repeatedly refused to share the travel posts of a local creator, in favour of posts by foreign influencers.
“He is a Malaysian and travels to share pictures and videos whilst travelling, he even tagged the account in his pictures, however, it has never been reposted. But when a mat salleh does it, they would then quickly repost it.”
They then shared a few screenshots of the said instance within the post.
Ingat orang biasa je yang kalut banggakan mat saleh rupanya account @TourismMalaysia pun sama. pic.twitter.com/xWktzcihoL

Stop white worship!
The post has since caught traction as plenty of netizens took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the matter.
“I’ve noticed this a long time ago. Sometimes the content by the rakyat is good and of high quality, but they only repost the content of foreigners.”
“Malaysians are obsessed with white people,” commented one user.
Another stated, “(I’ve) never supported white men that do travel content like this. There are tons of Malaysians that do travel content much better than the mat salleh.”
