Consider wearing a mask the next time you’re getting intimate with someone to possibly protect yourself from catching Covid-19, said one of Canada’s top doctors, Dr Theresa Tam.
On Wednesday (2 September), Tam, who is also Canada’s chief medical officer, advised the public to skip kissing altogether while adding that going solo is the lowest risk option during a pandemic: “the lowest risk sexual activity during Covid-19 involves yourself alone,” she said in a statement, as reported by Reuters.
The professional added that sexual activity with new partners increases the risk of contracting the virus, especially if close contact acts like kissing are involved. “Like other activities during COVID-19 that involve physical closeness, there are some things you can do to minimize the risk of getting infected and spreading the virus.”
Among those things are to skip kissing, avoid face-to-face closeness, wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose, and monitor yourself and your partner for symptoms prior to involvement in any sexual activity, suggested Tam.
The medical officer continued to say that sexual health is a vital part of overall health and by taking precautions, “Canadians can find ways to enjoy physical intimacy while safeguarding the progress we have all made containing Covid-19.”
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of how masks can be effective while engaging in sexual activity. A few months ago, researchers from Harvard University said that couples should wear masks while having sex to avoid transmission of Covid-19.
Be safe and responsible, guys! What do you think of this?
