A Malaysian woman shared a terrifying experience she had to endure at home in Ipoh around 3:50 AM when her multipurpose vehicle (MPV) was being driven away by robbers.
In a viral TikTok video by @farrahouz1, the Malaysian woman, Wafa said the family car – a Toyota Alphard was driven away effortlessly from her house on September 29 (Sunday).
“The thieves managed to open the house gate and unlock the Alphard with a remote device.”
According to Wafa, the robbers were well aware that they were being watched by Wafa and other members of the house. The family members tried to scream and even sounded the alarm of their other car, but that did not frighten the robbers. At all.
They continued to hotwire the car, and within 5 to 7 minutes, they managed to start the car. The robbers then drove the car away.
Why didn’t the family stop them?
According to Wafa, none of them dared to step outside and confront the robbers.
“We didn’t know if there were more of them waiting outside to attack us in case we came out. They might have guns,” Wafa remarked in her caption.
The woman, however, couldn’t confirm the number of robbers that were involved in the daring crime.
At the time of writing (September 30), PDRM has yet to release a statement regarding the matter, and Wafa has also lodged a police report since.
Time to go back to the old ways?
Social media users suggested Wafa go back to the old ways – manual steering lock which may be rare but promises safety.
“I always remind my customers to use the manual steering lock or paddle lock. It looks ancient but it guarantees safety.”
“I still use the manual steering gear for my Proton Wira. People laugh at me but I don’t care. It’s even harder for me if I lost this old car of mine.”
“Sometimes, we have to go back to the old ways. Make it a habit to install a manual steering lock or a pedal lock. Technology has its pros and cons.”
