Malaysians with disabilities are often overlooked and not prioritised for.

Able-bodied people have at times, showed a total disregard for the differently-abled community by blocking up walkways that make it difficult for people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, residencies as well as local governments have also been criticised for their lack of proper infrastructure for the OKU community.

A TikTok clip recently went viral after it highlighted a steep ramp that is meant for wheelchair bound people to use.

In the video, the poster says, “If an OKU person were to try to use this, they’d probably die. You see how steep it is?

The caption of the video reads, “Why would you build an OKU ramp like this.”

Netizens were amused

The video has garnered plenty of attention and currently sits on over 1.1 million views. Plenty of netizens commented their amusement over the wheelchair ramp.

“Even the person pushing the wheelchair would die,” said one user.

Another user said, “Maybe the one who built it used to skate.”

Meanwhile, one user said, “the person will go down first whilst the wheelchair stays at the top.

“Even a person without disabilities would probably end up on the floor,” said a netizen.

All jokes aside, we hope that businesses and local governments will be more mindful when building such infrastructures for the OKU community.
