When we were younger, traffic light signs were drilled into us. Red means stop, green means go, and orange means that the traffic light is turning red and everyone should get ready to stop.
However, it seems that some might lose the meaning, just like one of the drivers in this viral video on Facebook.
In the 17-second clip, we can see a Perodua Axia on the left following an orange car. At that time, the lights were already yellow, so the Axia driver stopped right when they turned red.
However, the car behind seemed less alert and sped up to beat the red light instead. Hence, this caused a crash, and the yellow car accelerated to lessen the impact.
According to the caption, this took place near AEON Wangsa Maju on the morning of June 6.
Many netizens commented on this issue, and some of them had some very interesting takes.
“It’s only yellow, and you’re stopping? What are you so anxious for?”
“Stopping suddenly. If you were slow and stopped, then it would be fine, but if you don’t follow the flow of the car behind, then of course it will crash,” said a user.
Others then reminded netizens that a yellow light means getting ready to stop and that cars should be separated when on the road.
“I really hate it when it’s already a yellow light, but the people at the back are following closely to make me go faster. The yellow light signals getting ready to stop.”
Another user commented, “I repeated this video many times, and the one who is in the wrong is still the car behind because they were not keeping their distance. The yellow light signifies getting ready to stop, not ready to speed.”
Well, we believe that everyone on the road should be alert to minimise accidents.
